inspiration that changes lives

But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Paul was the incredible man who was radically changed by Jesus.  He went from one side to the other, from opposed to Christ to His largest champion, from lack of influence to the greatest influence in the world.  We could share lots stories and teaching or writing, but lets take a look at the passage above.

There was a time when Paul met young Timothy, and everything in Timothy’s life as well turned upside down.  Over and over Paul taught this young man how to lead others to serve and follow God.  But Timothy’s growth began when he was born.  His grandmother and his mother poured their faith into him.  It begins but doesn’t end there.

In the verses above Paul tells Timothy that the power and authority the world needs is in the hands and heart of our God.  It is Timothy’s plight to remain faithful to the truth he has been blessed with through the years of his life.

Here the words…

You know the truth.

This truth comes from being taught, but it is gained by faith.  That means this stuff is taken at face value or even when you cannot see it.

Hebrews 11:1  NASB
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Given you the wisdom to receive salvation.

There is nothing greater than realizing how awesome salvation really is.  Some people get this at the time that the start begins and Jesus moves into a person’s life.  This wisdom is different.  It is not the type of thing that comes from an intellectual point of view.  It really comes when you realize how empty or useless you are without Jesus.  Real wisdom is seated in our God.  That is settled in our faith in God that we have a hard time explaining and spend lots of time praising!

But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

All Scripture is inspired.

This is the big point.  This is place that the Bible has in our lives and in anyone’s life that is seeking God and desiring to have lasting success.  The Bible can be used as a book of academia to teach lessons from different disciplines such as science or mathematics.  The Bible can be used as a guide for parenting or leadership or one of thousands of things.

These verses don’t suggest that the Bible is good for many things.  It really speaks to the fact that the Bible is competent is change lives, to teach truth and help those who read and apply it to realize how great our God is and how awesome His grace is.

Psalm 19:8  NASB
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

May our lives, like Timothy’s life, forever be changed because we consume God’s word and allow God to transform our lives!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
