the love of God

Humanly speaking we cannot wrap our brains around how much God loves.  Furthermore, we cannot explain sufficiently to anyone how His love works and how we are changed by it.  What we can explain is how we have experienced God and His love.  No one can refute our testimony and our experience.  That is what we need to share with others.

The older I get, the more I seek God, the more incredible His love grows to me and the more I realize that I do not understand or grasp how great it really is.  I have shared with you several times some of the overflow of my study to preach.  Today I share with you some lines from songs that give us a little picture of our God’s great love!

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

(from The Love of God by Frederick M. Lehman)

He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden,
I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

(from How He Loves by John Mark McMillan)

I love thee because thou hast first loved me,
and purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree;
I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow;
if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

(from My Jesus, I Love Thee by William R Featherstone)

Your love is amazing, steady and unchanging
Your love is a mountain, firm beneath my feet
Your love is a mystery, how You gently lift me
When I am surrounded, Your love carries me

(from Hallelujah by Brenton Brown and Brian Doerksen)

Wonderful so wonderful is your unfailing love
Your cross is spoken mercy over me
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart can fully know
How glorious, how beautiful you are…
You've opened my eyes to your wonders anew
Captured my heart with this love
'Cause nothing on earth is as beautiful as you

(from Beautiful One by Chris Tomlin)

That is only a few songs and a few of the thoughts that are running through my head and heart.  When we grasp God’s love, things change inside us.  Things also change in the way we deal with others.

It really is incredible to watch as a person is overcome by God’s love.  That person begins to give that love to others.  That love flows freely and brings all types of freedom.

May we be known as people who are consumed by and giving our God’s endless and unfailing love!

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope,

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
