pray for me

James 5:16  NASB
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

We have heard many people say these words.  “Pray for me.”  It is common especially when people know you are a person of faith.

What does it do for you when someone tells you that they are praying for you?  It lifts and encourages me in big ways.  The encouragement is even greater when I didn’t ask for or even expect the prayers.  We have an opportunity to bless others by simply whispering a prayer for someone.  At times you might not tell any one.  At other times telling someone is a real blessing.

Prayer is a great gift to give someone.  I have learned through the last 30 years that praying for another person may win them or pull them closer to Jesus.  That really is a big deal.

When I have been down, someone’s prayers picked me up.  When the questions were big or health concerns were present, prayers from a friend brought comfort and a reminder of God’s presence in my life and around my family.

We can give the gift of prayer is an awesome thing.  Getting the gift of prayer is also an awesome thing.  This may be the thing that pushes a friend, family member, a church family member or even someone you don’t know well to keep on living life.

Years ago I received a CD at a conference.  It contained a song by Allen Asbury called “Somebody’s Praying Me Through”.  Here are the lyrics of this song:

Pressing over me like a big blue sky
I know someone has me on their heart tonight
That's why I know it's gonna be alright
'Cause somebody's praying me through
Somebody's praying me through
It may be my Mother, it might be my Dad
Or an old friend I've forgot I had
But whoever it is I'm so glad that
Somebody's praying me through
Somebody's praying me through
Through the tears, through the rain
Through the sorrow, through the pain
It keeps bringing me through
Over and over again
So when you're drowning in a sea of hurt
And it feels like life couldn't get any worse
There's a blessing waiting to push back the curse
'Cause somebody's praying you through
Somebody's praying you through
Someone got down on their knees and prayed for me
Somebody's, somebody's praying you through

That is truth.  It is truth that changes my situations, my emotions, my family and so much more.  I challenge you to do what I have done even this week and spend some time praying for some people that God puts on your mind.

Praying for someone may change their eternal destiny or may change their struggle today.  Prayer really is a key that opens up greater days!

O Lord, I beseech You, may Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant and the prayer of Your servants who delight to revere Your name, and make Your servant successful today and grant him compassion before this man.” Now I was the cupbearer to the king.

NOTE: Thank you for praying for my mom as she gets stronger and prepares to go home next week from the nursing home (write my parents Judy and Richard Harrison at 8304 E. 74th Court, Tulsa, OK 74133).

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
