some of my verses from the #YourVerse series

Through the series I have shared the verses that have been an important part of my life.  They came to me as promises from God, encouragement to live by faith, courage to make tough decisions and much more.

Many people have shared some of their verses that God has placed in their lives.  I love to hear stories of faith and spiritual growth.  These have brought me encouragement even more.

So I’d like to share some of my verses with you today.  Most of these you have seen or read from me before because they run through my heart and mind and come out of my mouth often.  As you read through these and through the small comments I share, I pray God will continue to build in to your life the verses He wants you to claim as #YourVerse.  Scripture is something God uses to change our lives.

Read on.  Claim as your own if you must, but here are some of my #YourVerse verses:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

That was given to me when I was in the height of change in my life.  It brought comfort and direction directly from God.  Here is another:

James 1:5  NASB
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

That is the verse that I share on many emails and on all my letters.  Wisdom is something we all desperately need.  It was in the middle 1990’s that God led me to start reading Proverbs on a daily basis, and this verse went right along with it.  Here is another:

I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

This verse is one I learned as a young teenager that I have to apply on a daily basis.  Here is another:

Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

This is another that came alive with me when I was a teenager and started taking on more responsibility.  Here is another:

I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

I love this verse as a reminder from God.  Here is another:

No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

The comfort and promise of this verse is one I share with people I meet who are struggling with false guilt and shame.  Plus God gives all of us help in our struggles.  Here is another:

Matthew 6:33  NASB
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

I need that one daily.  The verses I leave with are the backbone of why Scripture must run through our veins.  I pray God will use many verses to change your life!

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
