stuff my mom said

For as long as I can remember my mom made sure that our family was in church.  She helped me learn about faith as did my dad.  I’m actually told that I was in church 9 months before I was born.  True.

Today I am going to share with you some things my mom treasured and wanted to share.  These are verses, sayings, prayers and more that I have found in her Bible this week.  Her funeral is this Friday at 2pm in Tulsa, but what my mom believed will go with me forever.

I pray some of these things will bless, encourage and teach you:

Proverbs 17:17 TLB
A true friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need.

Proverbs 18:24  TLB
There are friends who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

-- God never lets anything touch my life that isn’t for my good or for His glory.

-- You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.

-- Beginning today treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead at midnight.  Extend to them all the love, care, kindness and understanding that you can muster and do it with no thought of reward.  Your life will never be the same.

-- FAITH: forsaking all I trust Him!

-- Lord, when I’m feeling lonely and blue, I remember I am only passing thru – I’m going home.  Home to one great big happy family.  Living in mansions – mansions ready and prepared for me – mansions where Jesus will wipe away every tear and there will be no more sorrow.  This is God’s promise to me!

-- Practice random acts of kindness!

-- Dear Lord, please put your loving arms around my shoulders and put your hand securely over my mouth!

-- Good and evil are like 2 dogs living inside of us.  A good dog and a bad dog and which one we feed and spend the most time with will win the battle of good and evil!

Philippians 1:6  TLB
And I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in His grace until his task within you is finally finished on the day that Jesus returns.

That isn’t everything from her Bible, but it is several that sticking close to me today.  Be blessed by stuff my mom said.  I am!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
