Monday mind dump

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Another weekend has come and gone, and it is time to unload, share some things, or just dump lots of the stuff that is rushing through my mind.  There is nothing in particular.  These are in random order.  Some have lots of weight, and some are passing thoughts.  Maybe this Monday morning mind dump will help you deal with some of your thoughts.

+  The tragic events in Paris, Frances remind me of September 11, 2001.  We must spend more time praying for God and His workers around the world.

+  The weekend began with our annual high school band banquet, and our daughter won an award for being and serving in a selfless way.  I cannot tell you how proud this dad is of his daughter.

+  I sat and prayed with a daughter whose mom passed away last night, and the thoughts of the days before and after my mom’s death flooded through my mind and heart.

+  Saturday I was honored to be part of a wedding for some of our Hispanic friends.  I learned a lot, and it was an incredible experience of learning about culture and dealing with another language.

+  It is exciting to be part of things that are making a difference, and one part I really love is forging new partnerships with great people and organizations.

+  Being tired makes you react different and be negative.  Be careful.

+  Hearing the testimony of a passionate follower of Jesus really is amazing.  Sunday morning we heard one of those.  Oh my, God is good.

+  I miss my dad and am so excited he is coming to Virginia for Thanksgiving.

+  Listening to a very special young man share with our community group what he is thankful for was humbling and awesome.  Share with someone what you are thankful for.

+  Pain is a fact of life, and when we share life with others, it makes dealing with pain so much easier and even adds God’s peace as we seek Him.

+  The call, the card, the hug, the kind word … they make a difference.  Give one or more.

+  It is hard to deal with the stresses and the struggles of life when you are not spiritually sharp.  That is where spiritual disciplines come in to play.  Scripture, prayer, solitude and more will help you see situations much clearer.

+  We really are stronger together.  Just like the two guys I prayed with Sunday morning because we realized our enemy was on the attack and our short fuses weren’t getting us very far.  I appreciate those guys for helping my day get brighter.

That is just a little mind dump to clear the way for a new week.  It seems a good thing to share.  Have a great week, and may God shine on you and give us all reasons to share His love and overflow of thankfulness.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
