Veterans: thank you for serving

There are places you go and you see a military presence one of my favorite places is in an airport.  On several trips I’ve taken I have noticed the many military people traveling from place to place across this globe of ours.  A couple times I had conversations.

The people I met were guys and girls, younger and older, and serving in various parts of our nation’s military.  My heart was always over come with gratitude for the hours, days, months and years given to defend and fight for the honor of bring free.

My mind turns back many years to a time when I was visiting my dad’s parents when they lived in view of the mountains of Colorado.  I noticed in of their closets military uniforms.  My grandfather first served during World War II, and my uncle served much later.  Another of my grandfathers was in the army.  Another uncle was in the Air Force and was a pilot who trained other pilots.

Through the years there have been numerous people in the churches I served who were in the military or who had children in the military.  I remember the pain and the tears, the fear and prayers, the stamina to continue and the heart to get them home safely.  Yet it obvious that without those have served, we would not be free.

Much is the same of our faith.  Without the sacrifice of Jesus, we would not be saved or even have a Savior.

I chose to say THANK YOU to all who have served in any branch of the US military and to the families who have had someone from their family who served.  Thank you for giving of your time and life.  Thank you for sacrificing so much for such a great price.  American continues to have freedom by the grace of God and through the hard work of all who have served.  I am a grateful American.

Further, I pray that our nation will look toward God and seek Him more.  And I know that it all begins with us personally.  Seeking God is vital.  Serving where I can is a must.  Allowing God to lead us is imperative.

I pray God continues to make our nation strong, protects our military and gives wisdom to our leaders.  All the while and beginning with me we seek God and honor Him as much as possible.

What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord, whose people he has chosen as his inheritance.

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

Thank a veteran tomorrow for their service to God and our country!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
