Christmas ideals

“God manifest in the flesh - that is what is made profoundly possible for you and me by the Redemption.” (Oswald Chambers in My Utmost For His Highest for Dec 25)

John 1:14 (NASB)
“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Spiritual maturity is seeing and seizing God-ordained opportunities. Think of every opportunity as God’s gift to you. What you do with those opportunities is your gift to God. I’m absolutely convinced that our greatest regrets in life will be missed opportunities. (In A Pit With A Lion on a Snowy Day, page 17)

Born at Christmas more than 2,000 years ago (not Dec 25th yet this is the day we remember).  Sent from God.  Savior of the world.  Our Savior.  My Savior and my friend.

Hebrews 13:8 (nasb)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Not just a baby in a manger.  Not just a man on a cross, but the God who loves us all the time and forever.  At Christmas we celebrate that truth and are giving countless opportunities that tell others that Christmas is all about Jesus.

Psalm 79:8-9 (nlt)
...Let your compassion quickly meet our needs, for we are on the brink of despair.  Help us, O God of our salvation!  Help us for the glory of your name.  Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name.

we can give without loving, but we cannot love without giving - quote from a friend

Luke 1:38 (NIV)
"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.

Matthew 1:24 (NIV)
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.

That's the story of Mary and Joseph, the earthly parents of Jesus.  Because both chose to follow what God said, the world has been and continues to be changed.  Small choices have made a big difference.

God gave.  That means we should give.  God loves us.  That means we should love others.  Real love gives to others without a thought of what it will get in return.  I pray that this Christmas and in 2012 that we will be givers.  I pray that our giving will bless people and help lives to change, beginning with you and me.

NOTE: many of these are taken from posts around Christmas the last 8 years.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
