pre-Christmas mind dump

She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

It is the week of Christmas.  So much going on around us, and we are spending time with our family in Georgia this week which is a great blessing.  These are what you call the in-laws to me that became my family 22 years ago.

This will be something like a pre-Christmas mind dump.  I just want to share some thoughts that are running through me.  As before some are pretty empty while others carry much weight.  My prayer is that God will draw all of our attention to Him more and more as our celebration draws closer and closer.

… I have thought a lot about my mom as of late, and it is our first Christmas without her.  Honestly, this experience lets me see more of what others have gone through that I had little understanding of.

… Sunday morning is one of my favorite times of the week, but this week started out kind of strange through a conversation with a homeless man.  From the 20 minute conversation and through the next almost 2 hours I battled confusion in my mind.  I am grateful that God can grab our thoughts when Satan is doing all he can to distract.

… Our kids are growing up too fast.  New problems.  Less minute by minute interaction.  Deeper conversations, and so much more to pray for.  I am so grateful for all three of them.

… Julie drove part of the way to Georgia which made the trip quicker for me as I read and napped.  Again, I am grateful for her and know how blessed I am.

… Did I tell you I miss my mom?  Praying a lot for my dad and my brothers this week.

… I love to hear stories of how God works.  Yesterday I listened to a precious lady share how God answered her prayer for her children and grandchildren.  I met a man who was a secret Santa for a few hours, and it was awesome to hear him talked about the people who were blessed.  I have received a couple emails from people who took our “give-back” challenge, and they shared how they experienced God’s grace through their serving.

… my favorite quote from the past week is this: Praying is what confirms our true belief that we cannot succeed without God – and its absence confirms the exact opposite. - James MacDonald

… It is humbling to see and to experience the grace of God in our lives.  Our church family has my back and are so kind.  Some happenings this weekend reminded me just how special The Community Fellowship is.

… Unless God shows up we are sunk.

… Questions: what are you attempting that unless God shows up it cannot happen?  What will you bring to Jesus this Christmas?

… Enjoy your Christmas.  I am expecting loads of joy, some quiet time and making memories.

James 4:8  NASB
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
