what will you bring to Jesus?

What will you bring to Jesus?  This is a question that has been asked since the baby Jesus was born.  The shepherds brought themselves (which is what God really wants from us).  The wise men brought very valuable gifts.  Mary brought her heart.  And on the list goes.

We have a similar opportunity all the time to give to God what we have been given. Now, what we will we do?

I want to to challenge you, community family and friends, to bring your best to Jesus and express that by what you bring with you this coming Sunday to church.  These are suggestions that I pray encourage you to do these or to do do even more as God prods you to do so.

Here we go?

Of coarse, bring yourself and your family to church.  But how about bringing another special family member or friend with you?  The Gospel will be shared plus this is the last Sunday before Christmas and people are more apt to say YES to your invite than almost any other time of the year!

How about bring your best CHRISTMAS MISSION OFFERING?  There are two weeks left in this opportunity to give.  Mark an envelope with MISSION and place your gift in it.  I will be giving mine this week, and I ask you to join me.  You can also give HERE online and choose MISSION OFFERING.

You could also bring a special card or gift for a person at church who has blessed you or who might be struggling this Christmas.  Think hard about the people you worship with each week.  Some of our church family have lost their job, have had lots of health problems and many are just struggling.  Be a blessing to someone close to you that you wouldn't normally bless!

Another excellent and most important thing to bring is your readiness to serve.  I believe 2016 will be a great year for The Community.  We will kick off a new year with the theme of RETURN, and we will also be telling you soon about raising funds for our new campus in the way of a very special challenge.  Be ready the first Sunday in January to hear and respond.  This Sunday respond with you!

Christmas is a holiday Christians can celebrate each and every day.  Our Savior died for us and yet is alive and working in us and around us all the time.  It is our opportunity to bring our best to Jesus.

On Christmas day there will be a FREE MEAL served at Martinsville First Baptist Church (corner of Starling and Mulberry) from 10 until 2.  Please pass the word about this great blessing.  You can also donate, serve by delivering meals or cleaning, and for more information call 276-732-3422.

Make this season about Jesus and not all the other things that seem to cloud our thinking and even our worship.

I love each of you and look forward to seeing you this Sunday for worship at 10:10am.  What will you bring with you?

With GOD as my guide,

Pastor Michael Harrison

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
