what we do

But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.

Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven.

It seemed like a normal day.  That day I got up early to walk and to read my Bible.  As I finished walking and was headed home, I got this message:

You may not know me personally but you did the funeral for a man a few years ago and at that funeral you said the only way to see him or any other believer again was to accept CHRIST!  Those words were heavy on my heart so I gave my heart and life to CHRIST that week.  So I just want to say thank you for planting that seed in me it changed my life forever!!  THANK YOU for being a man of and in GOD!!! GOD BLESS!!

This note came through Facebook and touched me.  The dude and I are friends, but I had no idea.  That funeral was 7 or 8 years ago.  What a powerful word that was.

We never know the people we will impact.  I believe people will come up to us in heaven and let us know how we blessed their lives.  Similar to what is shared in Ray Bolts’ song “Thank You” will be said over and over and over again.

This is why we serve God.  It is not for what I get.  It is about what I can give, and the biggest thing I can give to others is Jesus.  He is the savior and sustainer of life.  He takes people further than I can take them on my own.  Pointing people to Jesus, I believe, is the most important thing we will ever do.

Why do we do what we do?  Do we do it to be recognized?  Do we do it or give stuff just to feel good about ourselves?  If those things are true, STOP.

Live it out loud.  Share what will last.  One day, either on earth but most likely in heaven, we will know the impact we’ve had through our lives.  We just have to remember; it’s not about us but about Jesus.  That’s why we do what we do!

In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,

NOTE: This post was first shared in April of 2012.  Also, would you join our church as we invite 250 people to give $100 each toward our goal of $25,000?  This is to put a roof on the office building at our new/future campus.  Please give online HERE (choose vision fund).  Thank you for your help!

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
