BIG game & big MONEY

It is the weekend of the big game, the Super Bowl.  Though my team is not playing in the game, and maybe not your team either, it is the biggest of the season.  Whether you are pulling for the Panthers or the Broncos, it is evident that these awesome teams are full of talent and potential.  I will be watching the game, but maybe I will be watching the commericials even more.

Did you know that a 30 second commericial costs $5 million dollars?  That is incredible.  That is big money.  To go to the game costs an arm and a leg too.  It is true that big money often will make some one big money.

Did you also know that giving big and small giving makes a really big difference too?  Julie and I have watched God bless our family as we have given and consistently tithed.  You know what I mean.  It is my responsibility to challenge you to do what the Bible says and to encourage you to be generous.

It is also exciting to tell you that our challenge to reach $25,000 by asking 250 people to give $100 each over your tithe has been good, and we are fast approaching $15,000 given to date.  Please join in this challenge and let us know you are on board with our future at church and the new campus.

Just to give you some understanding about our church and Dream Center here are some facts: our weekly church needs are about $2,800, to help a homeless person for a week costs about $100, to help with an outreach meal is about $50, to assist someone with a utility bill is about $25, for us to get in to the new campus is about $400,000, and from our regular offering we are able to keep the church running and bless people around our community.  Some big money and some not so big.

Be faithful.  Tithe of what comes in to you each month.  God will bless you as you are faithful.  If you cannot give 10%, start with what you can afford and what God leads you to give.  If you aren't giving 10% but are giving, try to bump up your gift as you can.  Choose to be generous with your money and your living.

Let me give you a couple ways that you can give as you are buying on a regular basis:

AMAZON --- when you are buying on Amazon, choose to go to Amazon Smile (http://smile.amazon.com) before you make a purchase, and set up your account by choosing to support the "Community Dream Center".

KROGER --- do you have a Kroger PLUS CARD?  If you do, choose "The Community Dream Center" as the organization you want to support.  If you don't, go get a card at the store.  Go to this link to register your card (https://www.kroger.com/topic/kroger-community-rewards-3)

We are grateful for all those who give to The Community Fellowship and Dream Center.  2015 was a great year, and it is already evident that 2016 will be even greater.  You can give during a worship service at The Community, mail your gift (PO Box 388, Collinsville, VA 24078) or give online at this link (https://tcf.ccbchurch.com/w_give_online.php).  These gifts allow us to thrive as a church and to share the love of God with more and more people.

That is enough for now.  I look forward to seeing each of you this coming Sunday as we begin a new sermon series, LOVE DOES.  It's the first weekend of February, and God has positioned The Community to make a difference in our area and in the world.  Thank you for choosing to be a part of making a difference.

Bless others.  Be generous.  demonstrate the love of God to your community and beyond.  See you soon!

With GOD as my guide,

Pastor Michael Harrison

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
