monday morning mind dump

Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.

It is back to “mind dump Monday” today as I share what is going through my mind.  As a new week begins there is snow on the ground, and this weekend was very, very busy.  Lots of great things took place.  One of the great things was Valentine’s Day.  It was good to spend some time with my family, but I am even more excited to spend time with them today.

Claiming to be one thing but living like another is 100% wrong.  We call those that live this way hypocrites.  Yet, if we choose Jesus, we choose life and love and even abundance.  It is in our reach.  Enjoying life, living with purpose and living in union with Jesus is possible.

Here are some pieces for today’s mind dump:

= My favorite quote from our current series is this … “when you love like Jesus loves, you’ll live like Jesus lives.” --- Bob Goff

= Last night our Hispanic congregation celebrated it’s first anniversary, and it was a great time of a mixture of English and Spanish speaking family members.  There is much more to come.

= Saturday we hosted a health fair during our 2nd Saturday outreach, and it was so good to talk with our partners, learn from them and plan for even more outreach.

= During the health fair a couple of the nurses shared about a few of the people they met.  By checking some of their health, they were able to connect them to medicine and medical attention that will make a big difference in lives.

= What will really last are relationships.  People matter.  All lives matter.  Helping people understand that they matter is incredible.

= Often times at the last minute God shows up and gives answers.  It opens our eyes to know and experience God even more.

= If we have not experienced God, we cannot share His goodness with others.  It is God’s love that changes us.

= Loving people proves that we are following God.

= One of my favorite things recently is a group of men I have been meeting with.  They are making me better and stronger.  We need people who believe in us and who speak in to our lives.

As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

This week will be full of opportunities that we have the choice to embrace or to push aside.  My desire is to make others better because God has and continue to make me stronger.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
