reasons from God and Romans 8 to be optimistic

Yesterday we started a new series called STAY POSITIVE.  It is a series from Life.Church that is going to inspire us to think differently have far more impact on others and to live with passion and purpose with the truth of God as our guide.

The first message in is about being optimistic and shared from Romans 8 truths from God that ought to make us positive throughout life and living.  Read on and see how God leads you to apply this to your life:

1. My sins are FORGIVEN and my eternity is SECURE.

Romans 8:1-2  NIV
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

What an incredible truth that God has converted our past wrong to His future glory.  He is and continues to hold everything in place for me.

2.  Jesus is at the right hand of God PRAYING for me.

Romans 8:34  NIV
34 …Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

When someone tells us that they are praying for us, that makes us feel better and stronger.  That should mean that when we know that Jesus is praying for us we ought to find great optimism.

3.  My future VICTORY is greater than my present PAIN.

Romans 8:18  NIV
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Perspective comes when we believe what God says.  Our bright future makes the tough things of today seems smaller.  God is in control.

4.  My mind is filled with the PEACE of God.

Romans 8:6  NIV
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

I need God’s peace, and this is a promise from God when we allow His thoughts to be our thoughts.  His peace replaces stress and fear.

5.  If God is FOR me — who can be AGAINST me?

Romans 8:31,33  NIV
31 … If God is for us, who can be against us? … 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

God is for us.  Period.  Nothing compares to our God.  He is bigger than everything.

6.  God’s spirit helps me in my WEAKNESS.

Romans 8:24-26   NIV
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.

I am weak a lot, and that means I need God.  He is our hope and cares for our weakness with His strength.  When I am down, he holds me up!  When I am hurting, he’s my comfort.  When I am alone, He is my friend.  When I am weak, he is strong!

7.  God’s working EVERYTHING in my life for GOOD.

Romans 8:28  NIV
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

That truth is one I have heard a lot.  He makes all things work out for His good in my life.  There is more to come!

8.  Nothing can separate me from the LOVE of God.

Romans 8:38-39  NIV
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

No matter where I go, My God is there!  No matter what I do, He still loves me.  No matter what happens to me, He is for me!

All eight points are directly from the message.  This stuff makes me stronger and more convinced than ever that God’s truth is what I must embrace and believe.

Are you looking for positive or negative?  What you are looking for you are going to find.

Proverbs 11:27 NLT
27 If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
