God speaks; we listen

Psalm 29:4  NASB
The voice of the Lord is powerful, The voice of the Lord is majestic.

How do we communicate?  There are all types of ways, sounds, methods, technology, hand signs, smoke signals… you get the point, but the fact is, we communicate with others a lot.  Where did is all begin?  It began with God.

Hebrews 11:1-4  NLT
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.

God has been in constant contact with the people He cares so much about.  He desires not a stadium full of one ways conversations.  He desires living rooms one on ones.  His desire is to share with us, listen to us and to love us no matter what.

This has been God’s mean and method since the beginning of time.  The prime element coming out of creation is not the earth or sky.  It is people.  He has sought after us since forever, and that will continue.

In our series FOR ONE we are talking about conversations with our God.  In particular about conversations where we meet with God, hear His voice, are able to share Him with others and we and the world around us is changed.

A great example of this is MOSES (see Hebrews 11:23-29, Genesis 3 & 19).  This is back in the earliest of Scripture as Moses was the one who penned what we know as the Law or the Torah of the Bible.  I like Moses.  He character stands out to me as he has to others for thousands of years.  There is something special about this handpicked follower of God, but please listen carefully…

You too are a handpicked child of God.  He has adopted you.  God loves you.  He speaks to you.  His plan for you is perfect, and His truth transforms us in to all our creator, God, made us to be.  To listen to the voice of God is to embrace all God has for us.  I want that.  How about you?

Exodus 24:3  NASB
Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!”

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
