become more aware of God's presence

let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

John 14:26  NLT
But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Earlier this week as I drove home from Richmond after Rebecca’s wedding I heard one particular song on the radio a few time.  That song sticks out in my mind.  Even yesterday as I walked through our future sanctuary the words to this song were written on the doorpost leading in to the sanctuary.

This song speaks volumes of what I am thinking and what I desire.  It invites the presence of God, actually the Holy Spirit, in to the place where we are.  I desire the presence of God more than ever.

Our desire to spend time with God, learn from God and worship God ought to grow more and more.  Also, our time with God will always lead us to want more of that same time.  Enjoying the presence of God is a big deal. He changes our lives the closer we are to God.

Want that more.  Ask God for it.  Here are the lyrics to that song:

"Holy Spirit"
by Francesca Battistelli

That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord

Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord
Your presence, Lord

There's nothing worth more
That could ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord

Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

Literally, may we become more and more aware of God’s presence.  That truth changes everything.  Let it change you.  Help others be changed.  Enjoy His presence.

This weekend I join a great group of people serving at our local speedway as NASCAR comes to town.  We have the right to speak to people who may never darken the door of the church, of any church.  By serving people and talking about Jesus we literally usher people in to the presence of God.

May we be ever more aware of His presence and how His presence changes everything!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
