we are the church. be the church

Hebrews 10:25  NLT
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

The Community Fellowship is in the middle of a series based on our 10th birthday celebration.  Yesterday we talked about the importance of the church that God founded and how our faith and foundation must be based on our God’s truth!

Our desire is to help those who are hurting, hungry and homeless through various outreaches and ministries.  Outreach is in our DNA.  Mission opportunities and outreach ministries continue every month. One of our current and favorite ministries is with our Spanish speaking families.

We exist to exalt God, influence others and encourage one another.  This truth is based on the “love” truth that Jesus spoke of often.  He told us to love God with all we have and do and love neighbors all the time.  It begins with loving and serving God.  It continues with sharing that same love with those around us.

1 Corinthians 9:22  NLT
When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some.

Jesus spoke to those closest to Him.  He poured out His heart time and time again.  Listen, we have to know our foundation well.  Know what we believe and hold those beliefs tight.

What we believe and what we value is vital for each of us to know.  God intends for us, His kids, to be actively involved in the life of Christ.

The church is the bride of Christ as the Bible talks about.  We must rely on Him, let Him work and be who He made us to be.

Ephesians 4:16  NLT
He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

There is nothing like finding your place where God designed you to fit.  The church is the greatest community where we can find where we fit with our family and others.  By committing our lives to God and ourselves to one another through God’s church, we are set to influence people for generations to come.

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...
