life is not pointless

Life is intended to be lived with a point.  We can have passion for why we get up and why we live, yet this type of passion comes best from the one who creative life and gives real and lasting meaning.  That would be our great and gracious God.

Romans 4:13-16  NLT
Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith. 14 If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless. 15 For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!) 16 So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.

Paul wrote the book of Romans for several reasons.  It is some what of a ‘primer’ of faith for new Christians and for some of faith’s larger questions.  Romans is also eye opening to many of the situations that 2017 has for us just like the world dealt with in the decades after Jesus was on earth.  God’s intent is for us to know that life and living with a point comes from our connection to God.

Abraham understood that.  Abraham has lots of challenges, but he also had a special relationship with God.  Far too often we put the people of Bible days up on some sort of pedestal.  Remember that they are human and have failures and flaws as you and I do.  Abraham had a relationship with God as we can.  Abraham had to make some choices as we do.

The same spiritual truth applies.  Faith is the promise of God we receive as a free gift based on what Jesus did for us.  Our faith and salvation isn’t based on what we do or by keeping the law.  Faith is the door to knowing God and having eternal life.

Life has a point.  Don't go around pointless!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
