Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their
sins and restore their land.
That one important
verse is seen on marquees, is quoted in sermons and is touted in so many places
when we talk about the needs of our country and of many other things. If you read the verses that surround it,
there is much, much to learn.
Solomon had just
completed the incredible feat of the construction of the temple and the
palace. It was a beautiful landmark that
his father so wanted to build, but it was the son now king, Solomon, that
brought the temple in to its glory. God
appears to him and reminds Solomon of the deep need of God to know His people
and to love them.
Even if all kinds of
bad things happen when God’s people come humbly to their God, God will be who
He promises to be bringing life, healing and strength. This is the example of strong people
connected to God as well as strong nations.
Psalm 33:12 NASB
Blessed is
the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.
Our nation and the
nations of the world need God. Today is
the “National Day of Prayer” as set forth by our nation. We are encouraged to pray for our authorities
and for God to bless this land.
We need God. Our families need God. Our nation needs God. Today we proclaim that fact.
Spend some time
praying today. There are mostly likely
programs or activities in your community today. In Martinsville there is a special time of
pray in many locations including at noon at the old courthouse in Uptown and at
6pm at the New College Institute with a special program all are invited to.
Pray today… for your
family, church, your town and county, state, country and the world. Include leaders of each of those.
Our prayers are
important as well. We spend time doing
the things we think are important. As I
have noted before, it is important to stop and pray for those on your mind or
the situations that come across your path.
Prayer does make a difference.
Prayer will change you. Prayer
will change others. Most of all prayer realigns
us with our great and might, our gracious and majestic God who loves us so
much.
Be people of prayer. Mark it today, this national day of prayer,
by taking extra time to pray!
James 5:16 NLT
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that
you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
