back2school gets closer

This weekend is the pack the bus event at Wal Mart and other locations.  Please donate school supplies at the locations or bring them to any one of the 9 locations.

While these students are here with us, not only will the students get new shoes and socks, new backpacks and school supplies, but they will hear a story that will give them hope and possibly change their lives.  Each student will have their feet washed as one of our volunteer team members share with them about things that really matter.

This is incredible!  You need to hear their stories, you need to see these students and our volunteers at their best.  But we still need some things.

First, we need donations of school supplies.  Everything from young children to high school students is needed.  If you live in our area and would like to donate, please let us know (or call the church at 276-647-8231).

Second, we need volunteer team members.  This weekend we work to "pack the bus" with donated school supplies from local people who deliver the supplies to our bus in front of the Martinsville Wal-Mart, Big Lots and other locations.  Volunteers are asked to join in one of the greatest times together on Tuesday, August 1st at 6pm to pack the backpacks at our new campus (700 Commerce Court, Martinsville VA).  That is the greatest day close to how incredible the big day of the event on August 5th.  From early, EARLY morning till late in the evening we will serve students.

Third, the last day to register students to take part on the back2school outreach is next Tuesday, July 25th from 6:30 to 8:30pm at any of the locations.  Your help is needed to get the word out to those in need of this program

Fourth and most important, we need your prayers.  When God's people get together and work hard for the kingdom, our enemy isn't happy.  Please pray.  Pray for the students, our team members and all the resources we need to make this happen.

The weeks getting ready for back2school are fun but tiring.  I love sharing with people that God wants our lives to count for His good.  back2school does that and so much more!  Here are a few verses that grab my attention:

2 Chronicles 14:2 NASB
Asa did good and right in the sight of the Lord his God,

I want that to my testimony and the truth about the people I lead.  Wouldn't that be awesome?

2 Chronicles 16:9 NLT
The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war."

God strengthens His people.  That is us.  We are so foolish when we do seek or run to God.

Psalm 19:14 NLT
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, OLord, my rock and my redeemer.

That's my prayer.  God transform me… my life… my words and my actions… my family and what I call important.  In hearing from others who are amazed at what we do through back2school, I want people to see God more than anything else.  I don't change lives, God does.

Lets pray that God will transform lives around us and transform us by His love.  This is a great time to be a child of God.

Catalyst ticket arrived

My ticket to the Catalyst Conference, in Atlanta Oct 8-10, just arrived. I'm excited!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
