The following was first shared several years ago when our
children were much younger but remains true…
Have
you written your Christmas list yet? Oh, this is an annual big deal for
our kids. One list is long and sweet. Another is short and
expensive. The last is all about super heroes and boy stuff.
Psalm 127:3 NLT
Children
are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
I
know that is true, but I don't always agree with that verse. Our children
open many doors for us to walk through, they open our eyes to things we need to
see, and they give us opportunity to love and live life. Christmas is
just one place where we MUST GIVE THEM JESUS.
That
is an awesome responsibility. How do we deal with the kids and with
Santa? There is no comparison of Jesus and Santa. One is vital to
our eternity, and the other is lots of fun along the way. Yet do we ever
confuse the kids or confuse ourselves in the process? Our commitment has
got to be... point them all to Jesus.
I
am not saying 'kick Santa' out of Christmas. I am saying keep Christ in
Christmas in big ways.
We
get to be there. Hurt knees on the pavement with the hugs and Band-Aids.
Good grades or winning ballgames. Learning to walk or ride a bike.
The first date or first time behind the steering wheel. Our kids are
precious, and we need to cherish the moments while we give them the very best
-- God, not material things.
Have
you watched, as I have, God answer our prayers? It is awesome, but it
hits me most when it comes to my kids. They keep on stealing my
heart. I love it when they crawl up in my lap or give a big hug.
This
season is a time to enjoy the kids, cherish family, enjoy the fun of Santa and
the extras and to let them all know that none of this would be without our awesome
and giving God. He still answers prayer!
Matthew 1:21 NLT
And
she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people
from their sins.
