stay connected


Stay connected.  Have you noticed that there are some places you go where your cell phone has no service?  There are lots of places around the globe where you cannot connect to the internet or a cell phone tower or one of numerous things that we like to connect to.

This past week 8 men from our community, me being one of them, traveled to Spartanburg, South Carolina to help our friends at SonRise Baptist Church.  I even worked.  Our team helped build walls, mud and tape walls preparing them to be painted, worked on some bathrooms and did a few other things.  It was a great 2 day trip with lots accomplished.

But one of the things that became evident not long after we arrived is that in the building, where we worked and stayed, there was almost no cellular service.  Even outside of the church cell service wasn’t very good.

This turned out to be a good thing.  We all had to disconnect some.  That was good, and that was bad.  Lots of different thoughts could go there.  I have a few to share.

We must and need to stay connected to God.

John 15:1-4  NLT
I am the true grapevine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more. 3 You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

Staying connected to God means there will be blessings, direction and much more ahead.  Disconnecting means less blessing and more trouble.

Some things we need to disconnect from.  Some things we need to stay connected to.  Think it through.

May we as children of God stay connected to God, or remain in Him.

May we stay connected to our families, to our wives and our children.

May we stay connected to the things that are making a difference in us and in others.

May we be wise enough to disconnect from what doesn’t matter and to what keeps us from staying connected to God!

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S.
