Galatians 2:20 NASB
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
There are some verses that ring in my head and come out of my mouth quoted to people in various occasions. These are verses like Psalm 139:23-24 praying that God would search your heart. Another is like Jeremiah 29:11 that many people quote about God’s plans or Romans 8:28 that God works everything out.
But the verse I call attention today is Galatians 2:20. It states that our lives really are hidden in Christ. Literally it says we have been crucified. So, lets take a closer look and from The Message translation of the Bible. This will be an entire section or 3 verses. Read on…
Galatians 2:19-21 MSG
What actually took place is this: I tried keeping rules and working my head off to please God, and it didn’t work. So I quit being a “law man” so that I could be God’s man. Christ’s life showed me how, and enabled me to do it. I identified myself completely with him. Indeed, I have been crucified with Christ. My ego is no longer central. It is no longer important that I appear righteous before you or have your good opinion, and I am no longer driven to impress God. Christ lives in me. The life you see me living is not “mine,” but it is lived by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I am not going to go back on that. Is it not clear to you that to go back to that old rule-keeping, peer-pleasing religion would be an abandonment of everything personal and free in my relationship with God? I refuse to do that, to repudiate God’s grace. If a living relationship with God could come by rule-keeping, then Christ died unnecessarily.
To identify with Christ is more than a thought. It is how we understand so it impacts our thinking, actions and the words that we use we all people.
It says my ego is no longer at the center. That is a big deal. It is because our lives are centered on God and not on us!
Life is focused on Christ. This life is led by Christ. But literally is Christ in me and in all I do.
Colossians 1:27 NASB
to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
1 Peter 1:21 NLT
Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.
Christ in us is the hope of glory. Christ through us is the message of the Gospel. But until we die to self or are crucified, we will not fully get what this Christ focused life is all about and how we find success through our Savior!
