Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.
One of the things that our church has tried to make sure is part of who we are and how we respond to others is in the area of being accepting and loving. That is what Jesus did. That means we should do it too.
If we aren’t careful, we will turn from accepting people to judging them. In fact some of the things we do, not spoken and very casual, will help us become more critical of others and less helpful. Take a look at your feelings. Get honest about the way you think of others when you see them out around town or when you see their posts on facebook.
Let me remind you and me that we can inspect things. In other words when something looks like an apple it must be an apple, but that doesn’t mean we should turn away from people or treat them inferior. This is how God says it:
Matthew 7:1-5 NASB
Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Does that make sense to you? I need this reminder from time to time.
Choose to accept rather than judge. Guard your family and yourself, but seek to show others what the love of God looks like.
As Bob Goff in his book Everybody Always says over and over, someone who is becoming love acts different toward others and toward themselves.
May we be the ones who lift, encourage, serve and share so that more people experience the love of God and allows Him to change their lives!
