choose to give

I shared yesterday that TODAY is #GivingTuesday which offers each of us an opportunity to literally give back.  That is part of my DNA and of our church too.  Giving has much more to do with than our wallet and bank account.  It really has to do with how we live our life and how we use our God-given resources.

Here is what WIKIPEDIA says about this day:

Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for purposes of hashtag activism, refers to the Tuesday after U.S. Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday and Cyber Monday). It is always five days after the holiday.

So, how will you give today?  Who will you give to?

Wait.  Hold up.  Some of you are trying to get off the hook.  You say you don’t have any money or cannot give.  That’s not true.  Remember that nickel you found in the car or the dollar bill you put aside?  Remember that open 15 minutes in your schedule or that 2 minute walk to the car?  That and more gives each of us the opportunity to give.

Choose.  Your church.  Favorite non-profit.  Neighbor in need.  Co-worker going through a battle.  Homeless shelter.  The kids center in town.  There are loads of these places.

Just choose to give. I invite you to give to our church and dream center if you would like.  Go to thecommunityfellowship.org and click give online.  All I expect is for you to give something.

Why?  It makes us all better when we give of what we have. It makes us stronger when we share our recourses.  This honors God by remembering why we are on earth.  Think this through and give…

Philippians 2:3  NASB
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;

1 John 3:17  NASB
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

Malachi 3:10  NASB
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.

Be generous every day.  Not just on #GivingTuesday

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
