We are there. The New Year is days away. In fact when this weekend is over we will be in to New Year’s eve and only hours from 2019. Are you ready?
Our church’s theme for 2019 is BE BOLD. My prayers for this coming year include being bold and several more specific things, but what I want to draw your attention to is the fact that our priorities should be in place before we set our goals.
I am not talking about your New Year’s resolutions because those usually don’t last. I am talking about setting your priorities on a daily basis. I am talking about the things that are vital to your living and the first things that come to your mind that are important to you.
Here are a few things that ought to be our first things or important things:
Joshua 24:15 NLT
But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
That verse makes priorities clear. Would you agree?
Begin with God. Who are you going to follow? Who will you trust?
Follow with loving your family. Choose for your family to follow God together. Joshua said “as for me and my family” which is a choice we can make.
Here are a few of the other verses that stay high on my list to help me maintain my priorities:
Colossians 3:2 NASB
Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
What are you going to focus on? God. That’s it. Life is NOT all about you.
Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I’m not going to worry. I choose God and choose faith. My choices will allow peace to reign in my life and for me to live in freedom.
Just might be a great thing and some time well spent to think about what is going to be important for you in the coming new year. Mark your priorities. Choose what is important!
