pray for Sri Lanka

Psalm 34:18  NLT
The Lord is close to the broken hearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

One of my favorite people in all the world sent me a message this week that has continued to roll through my mind and tug at my heart.  Luke Walters is the guy.  I met Luke in Louisiana, and he has even come to Virginia to be with me.  He loves racing, is a great friend, but most of all he loves Jesus.

His work is called MAP 1040 which illustrates well the fact that their impact is world wide but focused on what is known as the 1040 window where more people on earth have not heard the name of Jesus.

Recently when I was in Cuba I found out that Luke was in Cuba at the same time.  We connect at the strangest or unplanned times, but it is always because of his commitment to make Jesus known to the world.

Early this week I got a short message that he was headed to “his beloved people of Sri Lanka”. My heart sank.  Last Sunday, Easter Sunday, there were bombings in many churches and other locations in the country of Sri Lanka where Luke has been involved in much work.  Later in the week I saw pictures of funerals and graves for Christians who lost their lives.

Such a sad happening.  Our world is in desperation.  Pray for Sri Lanka and for workers like Luke who are sharing Christ and loving people.

God is close to those who are hurting.  May of those people like next door to me and to you.  Also, many of those people are in Sri Lanka.  I believe we become the hands and feet of Jesus when we love people as Jesus loved them.

Our God loves people.  Make sure that you make that known as you move through this day and the days ahead.

1 John 4:16  NLT
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.

NOTE: this Sunday is our annual “Faith In Action” project as The Community Fellowship partners with Rich Acres Christian Church to serve our community.  We will meet at Rich Acres Church (422 Mountain View Rd., Martinsville off of Joseph Martin HWY) at 9am for worship and then go out to do many mission projects.  We will not have our normal 10:10am worship time in Collinsville, but there will be a mission project at the church.  Even if you haven’t signed up, join in and bless our community!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
