John's story

John’s story is kind of simple but totally awesome at the same time.  He was one of the people who shared at the Samaritan’s Feet weekend in an interview with Manny Ohonme.

People are served all around the world by Samaritan’s Feet.  We have seen that here in our community as well as on the recent mission trip I was on.  The stories seem to be endless and really inspiring.

Manny and a group were in Burundi which is on the African continent.  They went to an orphanage to serve children there. That is the kind of place that needs hope and light.  The children brought smiles to all who served, and it was an incredible experience for the residents and the visitors.

One of the children served was a teenager.  That boy was John.  His story includes being from another country in Africa and having to move due to war. He was separated from his mother but still with his siblings.

The story doesn’t end there.  Getting a pair of shoes inspired John to look beyond the clouds and to dream big.  He is now living in the United States and helping other dreamers.  In fact they thought his mother was dead, and in his story John told about getting a phone call from his mother who had to convince him who she was.

They have since been reunited.  John’s story goes on and is big time inspiring.  To see the connection that John made to getting a pair of shoes, to being challenged to dream big and to move on in life is awesome.

There are many stories like John’s story.  This one was simply shared with us.  Powerful, to say the least.

You have a story, too.  As we serve others we are creating opportunities and stories for others.  We literally inspire hope when we help others dream and know that they are important.

Share your story and help others build their story!

Psalm 145:7  NLT
Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness.

1 Peter 3:15  NASB
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

  John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
