focus, pray, share with one

Our “Who’s Your One” series continues at The Community Fellowship, and we are encouraging people to seek the Lord for that one person He has put on your heart. Pray for their salvation and plan to share with them why you have hope in Jesus. It is that one person!

One. Simple and practical. One is easier to grasp than 1 million or even 100. In fact We’re prone to think of “one” as small and insignificant. Who wants just one cookie? What is the value of only one dollar? But the Bible consistently speaks of one: one pearl of great price, one lost sheep, one wayward son.

Those who follow Jesus, even the Disciples of Jesus, often overlook the value of one. One invitation to church, one message of hope, one neighbor, one coworker, one friend. Can you name one person who has come to Christ through your invite and witness?

The gospel makes this all possible.

Romans 1:16 NLT

For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

It’s “the power of God for salvation”. Paul said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel.” God points us to one. These verses ought to make that extremely clear.

John 1:45-46, 49 NLT

Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”46 “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”“Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied… Then Nathanael exclaimed, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God—the King of Israel!”

Philip didn’t ask him to come and see until he went and told. It was important to Philip that Nathanael met Jesus.

Notice the change in these verses. From the time Philip went to tell Nathanael until the time they came to Jesus, there was a change. First, Nathanael was a skeptic. He asked if anything good could come from Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown. Second, once Nathanael met Jesus he confessed who Jesus was.

Meeting Jesus makes all the difference. That is why we continue to focus on, pray for and share hope with the one God put on our hearts.

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born. It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.
