you are significant

This will be the last devotion I share until the week of July 8th as I will be on a mission trip in Cuba.  Please pray for this team and the impact we pray for as we serve with some Fellowship of Christian Athlete leaders.

The last several weeks has been full of mission opportunities and trips.

Several weeks about Kasim, Larry and myself were part of the Men on a Mission team working on a church in North Carolina.  That trip went well, but it didn’t go as expected due to some issues with building codes.  God still worked much.

Last week we hosted at our new campus a mission team from 8 churches from the Spartanburg, South Carolina area.  This was their second trip to our area, and it was a blessing.  They accomplished more than we thought possible.  It all hit even more on the last night of the trip when there were 7 baptisms at a block party.  We are praying for even more impact and grateful for what God has done.

This week I will be in Cuba with a group from our church, and this is my second trip this year. On the first trip we met 2 leaders that stole our hearts, and we are excited to work with them again.  Our plan is to work on ball fields and sports courts as well as to serve coaches and athletes, but we will be flexible to see what God does.

There are so many ways that we can serve.  We don’t even have to go on mission trips to serve.  You might have a neighbor that has a need.  There might be a person that God brings to your mind that you need to share your story and faith with.  Do what God leads you to do.

In the sermon I shared yesterday at our church we talked about how important every testimony and every gift and every person is.  We ought to take opportunities to share our faith.  That doesn’t have to be in front of a crowd.  It might just be with one person.

Share. Serve.  Realize you are significant to God!  Your story is important.

Luke 21:1-4 NASB
And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury. And He saw a poor widow putting in two small copper coins. And He said, “Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all of them; for they all out of their surplus put into the offering; but she out of her poverty put in all that she had to live on.”

What the widow gave was more significant than what the rich person gave.  Every things we do and share about the hope God has given us really is significant.  Choose to make your words and life count!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
