a stronger #back2school

This year we are ready for a stronger #back2school for 2019.   How can you help that be a reality?  First,   pray for all involved (those served and those serving), volunteer at one of 15 churches, give to support the events, be part of the big event on Friday (special needs students served in Collinsville) and Saturday, AND finally, help celebrate by sharing and continuing to serve! Matthew 18:20     NLT For where two or three   gather   together   as my followers, I am there among them. It is incredible to get together with hundreds friends for a common cause.    One of my favorite happenings of #back2school is when we come together to put the school supplies in backpacks.   That was last night.  More than 300 volunteers filled more than 3,500 backpacks.   I cannot even come up with the right words or how grateful I am for all the partners who are joining us this year. ...

adventure ... like back2school

Judges 9:17  NLT For he fought for you and   risked his life when he rescued you from the Midianites. That verse referred to Gideon.  That guy had an encounter with God that led him on adventures that were pretty awesome.  He didn’t think so at first, but then Gideon did what God led him to do.  He found victory in a way that the world might say he should have failed. The quoted verse above asks the question of others.  It asks, “did you honor this man?”  Why honor him?  Because of the risk he took he should be greatly honored. I like some risk.  Not all risk do I like.  But adventure is a big deal and can take us in directions that are fresh and new and even making our heart race. Like shark week.  On the Discovery channel this is what they call “shark week”, and it is something my family has watched for several years.  They are cool animals, and the ...

celebrate people

It is back2school week.  That means the next several days are going to be extra busy.  I am excited, nervous and expecting God to do incredible things.  This will be the biggest and widest year ever. I have some things to celebrate. And I want to be an example of what and how we celebrate.  God has provided resources and the items needed.  He has given us partnerships and growth of various kinds. Help me celebrate what God celebrates. That would be people.  God has given us some incredible people that are making it happen. Some are pastors.  Many are leaders in their church.  A few are people from our community that have decided to take part in this year’s event.  It takes a lot of people to pull this off, and God has given us many who are huge blessings. Join me in celebrating people today. Say thank you to someone who does something for you.  Write a c...

$14 will make a difference

I want to Introduce you to Mandi Bartlett. Mandi is part of our church family, works with cancer patients in our community and leads a non-profits working in Tanzania.  You have to love this young lady's heart for God and for people. That is why we are asking 100 people to give $14 to help reach a goal of $1,400 for her upcoming trip.  Below is a guest post from Mandi. After the post I'll share with you ways to give.  Here is the incredible Mandi Bartlett!!!  Anyone who has had a conversation with me in the last year always learns at least one thing about me: On August 4th I'm going to climb the tallest mountain in Africa. Seven days at sub-zero temperatures, minimal oxygen, no first world amenities.  Why? Why do something so uncomfortable, so dangerous?  Because 7 years ago God called me to a tiny village in Tanzania; and my mustard seed- size faith told me to go. I was 24 years old, had never left the country, and had no idea who this God of mine really was.  In the last ...

2 weeks till back2school

Matthew 19:14 nlt But Jesus said, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children."    We are 2 weeks away from the back2school outreach for this year (3 weeks for our locations in Texas and South Carolina).  This is an exciting time to say the least.  Well more than 1,000 volunteers will serve approximately 4,000 students from more than 80 churches. I cannot believe that this is our 13th year to serve.  Why do we do this?  It is for one reason.  It really is not about helping students, but we do.  It is not about being kind, but we are.  It really is about sharing the hope of God with as many people as we can. It is a fact that when we begin to serve others and think about others more than we think of ourselves that we will find our purpose and even find that we are getting closer to God.  H...

stand out

What will make us stand out? No, I am not asking about being selfish or making everything about you.  In fact yesterday I asked about who gets the final word. My thought today is really about what can we do to make sure people see the goodness of God? There is a life style that points people to God.  Others might even ask why you are so forgiving or so kind?  People may no understand why you don’t do things to people so you get ahead. The fact is God wants us to live our lives so others see what is good and that God is good. What is different in the person who stands out with God in their lives as number one? Proverbs 18 NLT (various verses) 4. Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook. 10  The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. 12  Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor. 15  Intelligent ...
