There are so many things in this world that distract us. In fact the ways that we respond to the world and our situations tell a lot about what we believe and how we follow God.
Take a few minutes to read the following verses. Here are just a few thoughts that will keep us focused as we follow God.
James 1:19-25 NLT
Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.22 But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
Listen much, speak little and don’t get angry.
The opposite of those three things gets us in trouble. As the next verse says, human anger doesn’t produce godly desire.
Accept what God says with humility.
Some people can’t be taught. They are so stubborn, stuck in their thinking, that they will miss God and can’t even hear what He is saying.
Put in to practice what God says and don’t just listen.
Faith has to become action. All else is just foolishness. It is kind of like just going to church for the reputation or to sale your products or to be seen.
May God lives truly display the fact that we have heard what God has said and put it in to practice!
