rest and strength

When we get tired, we have a hard time standing up. If you are really tired, we might not be a able to sit up or even lean. That is why we need to commit to self-care even before we care for others.

Let me out it another way: when you have nothing to give, you cannot help yourself or anyone else for that matter. Make sure you take a Sabbath. That is the day that God calls us to rest and reflect on life while we worship Him. Make sure you care for yourself.

Let me define just one way we care for ourselves. That is by understanding the battle going on around us and even inside of us. There are many battles going on, but we cannot let that battle get the best or the most of us.

Galatians 6:10-13 NASB

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

The best way to be strong is in the Lord. His strength is something we need.

Put on His armor, not ours. Ready about the time that young David tried to put on King Saul’s armor. It didn’t fit, but God’s armor fits everyone.

Realize our struggle is in the Spiritual world. Our enemy is out to get us. There is more to this battle than we can see. Recognize it and move past it.

Choose to stand firm. Firm only happens when we stand with His armor and in His strength.

Where do I get rest from those verses? It reminds me to know that God fights our battles. My place is to follow and praise Him. His armor is intended to keep me close to Him and safe from the enemy.

Rest in the Lord and let His strength stand high!

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born. It wasn’t until his 30’s that under the influence of his friend Tolkien that he came to be a Christian.
