connect the dots

Ephesians 2:20  NLT
Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

Connect the dots, have you ever played that game?  I remember as a child being given a piece of paper, either to keep me quiet or to prove a point, and asked me to connect the dots.  Before too long it was evident that the dots formed a picture.  It was pretty cool.

Yesterday I saw the dots once again.  It is still pretty cool.

Early this week I sent a text message to a friend who does ministry in Cuba.  Only a few minutes later he called me.  My friend shared a need that a mission team leaving this weekend was going to meet but was running low on supplies.  That leads to yesterday.  I met a friend, half way to Charlotte, NC, and gave her three boxes, one plastic tote and a bag.  Inside those were baby clothes, bottles, maternity clothes and more.  This mission team is going to serve moms with new babies.  All I did was connect the dots.  I heard about a need.  I sent a few messages to share the need.  I got to deliver the stuff.

It happened again.  I was sitting in a meeting last week and heard the story of a veteran in a town close to ours that is struggling.  This former solider is working hard to make ends meet and take care of himself, but this is one of those times when the system seems to be working against him.  But one passionate VA social worker and several other agencies and our church is seeking to connect the dots.  As of today this veteran will not be homeless.  He will have a new home with all of his material possessions, his dogs and more.  All it took was connecting the dots.  I made some calls and sent some text messages.  Others did the same.  Several helped meet needs to connect this veteran to things needed to keep him from falling through the cracks.

Connect the dots.  You have resources.  You know people.  Connect the dots.

Got across the street.  Share a meal.  Mow a yard.  Make a call.  Say a prayer.  Hold a hand.  Share some hope.  Connect the dots.

God will do more than we can, but He will use us, that is you and me, to make a difference in the lives of people we encounter.

May God help us connect the dots.

Philippians 2:2  NLT
Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
