the servants

1 Thessalonians 3:7  NLT
So we have been greatly encouraged in the midst of our troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith.

It is not all during times of suffering and struggle, but I have met some incredible people over the past several decades that have given themselves to the cause of Christ.  These people continue to encourage me through the marks they left on my life.

There are people all around us who are doing amazing things.  Many of us are blind.  No, we can see as good as the next person, but we are not looking for the people that God is mightily using.

I am talking about little old ladies who show up often to serve and love on others.  People like Helen at our church and Cornelia that prayed for me when I was young.

I am talking about the people who aren’t seen by many people but often are working under the so-called radar and making a difference.  People like Frankie or Fred or Laddie that serve or served so many, many times.  There are many others I could name.

I am talking about ministry leaders who have been seen serving during great events.  But before and after those events they worked hard, long hours and doing whatever it took to pull off the work and serve others. People like Alexander or Katie or Jim come to mind, and they are incredible.

I am talking about the people who stay late or who show up early.  These people do what it takes.  Many of them give and then give more of their treasures.

Here is my point: it takes all of us to finish the task that God has called us to be part of.  You are called to be part of His church and the work God has begun.  So, I challenge you to give.  Yes, write a check or give online to your church.  be faithful.  I challenge you to serve again.  There is a place you used to serve or another one that needs you.  I challenge you to hit your knees or your prayer closet and beg God to do what only He can do.

It takes us all.  God is up to a lot!

Luke 10:2  NLT
These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
