get back in

Proverbs 16:9  NASB
The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

I sit and wonder often about the impact of our ministry and church.  Then out of nowhere some information comes at me almost like a ton of bricks.

When God shows up, He does more in one minute than I can do in a lifetime.  His desire for you and me is simply to be part of His plan to change the world, and that change begins with what God is doing in our own lives.  He is at work to do so much more than we know.

Look back over your journey.  For me that is 49 years of life and almost 34 years as a follower of Christ.  There have been mountain top experiences and lots of valleys or lows.  I wouldn’t give up any of them, and many of those I hold very close to my heart.  Some of those memories I have not or have rarely shared with any one.

God is working in my heart still.  Listen, we are never to old or to young to be used my God.  We are never to poor or without resources because He will use what we have.  Even greater we are never too put together or too rich to be useful to God.

But what gets in the way of us being used or even listening to God is thinking too much of us and too little of God.  Remember, He is able.  He is big.  He is working even when I think there is no hope.

His grace is greater than the biggest sin.  His light shines farther than the furthest place we can think of.  And that person that cannot see or hear God really can.  I am talking about the tribe cut off from the world with no church.  I am talking about the person laying on their death bed and about to leave the world.  I am talking about person who has thrown it all away on drugs or success and ended up at the bottom.

God is close to each of them and to us.  It is time to listen to God.  It is time to get back in the place where God is working.  It is time to believe that God has a good plan that offers endless hope and changes lives all around.

The humbling thing… God still uses people like you and like me.  So, get back in.  Be part of what God is doing!

Ephesians 3:20  NASB
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

1 Peter 5:6  NASB
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,

Philippians 2:3  NASB
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;

Psalm 121:1-3   NASB

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come?  My help comes from the Lord,Who made heaven and earth.  He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
