be a giver (and more)

There are many things to think about during this down time.  Wait, this is now down time.  This is being told to stay home time.  Maybe life has taken a weird turn for you as it has for others.  That simply means for a while things are going to be different.  But honestly many things may never be the same.

As I think through that life was life just a few weeks ago and what it is like now there are some things that have to continue.  I do not apologize for sharing what I am today.  Yet I do ask that you seriously consider some things that are important.

Be a witness.

Share your faith in your social media posts, in your daily interaction with no matter who you encounter.  Faith over fear.  Worship over worry.  Christ over all the chaos.

Matthew 5:16  NASB
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Be a giver.

This is one that we cannot miss.  Tithe and give to the church as you have in the past.  For our church go to the church website www.thecommunityfellowship.org and click give online.  Whether you can attend in person or not, give as you know is right.  The church and the ministries you support need you more now than ever.  Be a generous giver.

2 Corinthians 9:7   NASB
Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Be a prayer warrior.

Yes, I sound like a broken record, but while we are home or social distancing, pray.  Pray for the people that come across your mind or across your screen.  Let people know you are praying for them.  This might be an encouragement that keeps someone going.

Psalm 142:1  NASB
I cry aloud with my voice to the Lord; I make supplication with my voice to the Lord.

Be a thermostat.

The difference between a thermometer and a thermostat is huge.  We should be the ones who set the atmosphere wherever we go.  Christians should know peace and have wisdom.  That gives us the ability like a thermostat to set the mood, the attitude, the strength and the joy of the places we find ourselves.

Don’t let the coronavirus make you lazy or unfaithful.  Seek to be a change maker, a hope giver and a blessing in many ways.  Include the things I just mentioned.  Be a witness, a giver, a prayer warrior and a thermostat.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
