make others better

Jude 1:20  NLT
But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit,

One of the things that will kill your momentum and rob of your strength is comparison.  When we judge ourselves based on someone else’s wins, their looks, their Facebook persona or anything else, we have lessened our God given value.

Comparison will kill your future possibilities as well as you ability to help others be better and stronger.  The choice is yours and mine to stop putting ourselves up next to someone else.

Speaking personally in light of the present pandemic and chaos that it is causing as a pastor it is easy to choose to compare our church and ministry with others.  It is not wrong to get ideas and even use what others are doing.  But when we belittle others or think less of others we have chosen to go down the wrong road.

It has been incredible over the last week or more to share with others some of the things God has blessed us with.  Yesterday I met with a local pastor and shared resources as well as ideas to make their church possibly stronger.  That doesn’t mean we have arrived.  It does mean we have learned and want to help others learn.

Stop putting yourself or your church or your family next to anyone else.  In fact choose to make yourself and those around you better.  By serving others you strength yourself.  By helping someone else succeed you will succeed even more.

I truly hope this make sense because this is something that some of us battle all the time.  Let’s celebrate the wins of the people around us and others far from us.  Find ways to make those closest to you the best they can be.  Knowingly choose to serve people who might not expect for you to help them.

We are better when we are working for each other.  Let’s make others stronger.

Romans 15:2  NLT
We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

Philippians 2:3  PASSION
Be free from pride-filled opinions, for they will only harm your cherished unity. Don’t allow self-promotion to hide in your hearts, but in authentic humility put others first and view others as more important than yourselves.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
