seek God's wisdom

Today is a new day.  In fact the Governor of Virginia gave this day for communities like ours to open.  Or I mean to partially open in phase 1 of his plan to keep us safe and to continue seeking to flatten the curve of the Coronavirus.

My problem is, and I am not a professional just to clarify, the curve seems to be getting worse.  Yes, there are more tests being given and more positive results.  This week has brought more cases and some close to us and even a death.

But today is still the opening.  This weekend churches have the opportunity to open if we choose, but each church is asked to adhere to several guidelines that will help to keep people safe.

Is our church opening this weekend?  No.  We are not, and we will be waiting a few more weeks.  And we will be praying that the curve really does flatten.  We will be praying that people are safe and healthy.  That is the bottom line.  Our job as a church is to point people to Jesus as we share hope with each.

That is why during this week, and the past few weeks, I have spent more time listening, learning, praying, asking and planning with our leadership team at church.  My heart is crushed because of the pain that this virus has brought locally and world wide.

We need help.  We are not alone.  But we will get through this together.

Isaiah 55:6  NASB
Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.

Seek Him.  First of all He is the one I need.  I love spending time with my family.  I miss being with our church family, but I need the Lord, His direction and healing all around.

Proverbs 16:9  NASB
The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

I have a plan, but my plan has holes in it.  Do you get that?  Alone we are in trouble.  Together we are stronger.  Led by the Lord we win.  He will direct our steps all through to the end as well as when the first in person worship service takes place.

James 1:5
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

That is my life verse.  The wisdom from above is important and better than anything else.  In fact this situation calls for large doses the wisdom that comes from God.

Pray.  Pray for wisdom and an end to this virus and protection for all until it is gone.  Let’s seek the Lord together.

NOTE: this weekend’s worship at The Community will be online only.  Sunday morning at 10:10am and Saturday’s addiction ministry service at 6pm will be on the church Facebook page.  The following Sunday, May 24th, will be a Drive-In service where we will honor our graduates and share our plan for re-opening the church.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
