time to pray

A few years ago I was at a conference and heard a message from Pastor Steve Gains, Bellevue Baptist in Memphis, as he shared about prayer.  I read back through the notes from his message, and it was powerful.  So powerful that I wanted to share with you.

Here is goes… some of my notes:

Things are different after you pray then before you pray.  You don’t have to have the greatest intellect for God to use you, but you do have to pray.  If you don’t pray, you will not be used as God wants to use you.

You can go to all kinds of conferences or read all kinds of books, but if you don’t pray, God’s hand won’t be on your ministry, your marriage or on your life.

DANIEL 9:23 NLT
The moment you began praying, a command was given. And now I am here to tell you what it was, for you are very precious to God. Listen carefully so that you can understand the meaning of your vision.

A day without prayers is a wasted day.  Why is that?  It is because prayer moves the hand of God.  God never anoints a person who is prayerless.  In fact the devil hates the Jesus in you.  The devil is fighting you, and as the book of James reminds us we must resist the devil, and he will flee.  We are in a war, and we overcome through prayer.

Jesus is the prayer expert.  If Jesus prayed, do you think we need to pray?  Missions was birthed in a prayer meeting.  Prayer reveals the will of God.  Want to know God’s will for your life?  Then pray.

Draw near to God.  God wants His children to come near to Him.  You have the ability to hear the voice of God.  If you are not talking with God, then you are not walking with God.

JEREMIAH 29:13 NLT
If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

If you don’t pray, you are wasting your life.  The older I get the less I care about what people think of me because I am getting closer to seeing Him.  Lord, I want to be precious to you!

God blesses obedience.  God commanded us to pray.  The reason you aren’t at the level God wants you might be level of your prayers.

My life has changed because I have emphasized prayer.  God honors our prayers even at our weakest.  Every Christian ought to be crying out to God for Him to move in your land.

This is a time to pray.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
