Memorial Service for Aliet Silot

Hello Community family and friends.

This Saturday at 11am we will be hosting a memorial service for Aliet Silot. Aliet lived with Cindy and John DeOms from our church for some time. Please be praying for Cindy and John as well as for Sam, Cindy's son, and Hunter, a close friend.

Aliet was a sweet young man who was loved by many in and around our church as well as at Basset HS where he attended. At 23 his life was cut short so early, but it was evident by this young man's life while he was with us that he loved others and understood faith. He enjoyed helping out at church, especially in serving our children.

If you are able, please join us Saturday at 11am for this Memorial Service. You can also drop a card to Cindy and John by mail (527 Bowens Creek Rd., Bassett, VA 24055).

Remember that we are called to demonstrate the love of God to our community, and this is one way we do share God's love. I look forward to seeing you this weekend or in the near future. Let me know if I can pray for or serve you in any way. God is good!

Francis Chan's "Forgotten God" (brand new book)

One of the most powerful preachers, writers and leaders of our time, in my opinion, is Francis Chan. His first book, Crazy Love , revolutionized my thoughts about God's love as well as my interacting with God. Now it is time for a brand new book from Chan being released tomorrow, September 1st. inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share. For me C.S. Lewis is one of those. He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class. It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before. He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S. Lewis was born in 1898 and died in 1963, 7 years before I was born.
