the new year and His blessing

There is an old blessing from Numbers 6 that has been used for centuries and by so many churches and ministers.  Just recently Kari Jobe brought it to light in a song.  I have listened to it many times, and it always reminds me how we should be a blessing to others.

The new year is only a couple days away.  Each of us are looking for it to be a year of blessings.  That is much unlike the current year and the situation around us.  We want blessings instead of the pain and chaos we have dealt with.

That is why I ask you to take time to seek the blessings, but even more seek give blessings to others.

Numbers 6:24-26  NASB

The Lord bless you, and keep you;  The Lord cause His face to shine on you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His face to you, And give you peace.ā€™

It really is that simple.  Accept the blessing.  Share the blessing.

Letā€™s set our focus, our plan for the new year, our expectations, and our belief that God can fix what is broken, straighten what is crooked and breathe life where there has been death.  But hold up.

The blessing isnā€™t ours to give.  That blessing belongs to God.  And He is willing to share, to give and bless His children with real and lasting blessings.

I choose in this last e-devotion before the new year to give you a blessing.

May God bless you!

May the face of God shine on you.

May you experience His grace.

May you hold on to and give out His peace.

Notice something that keeps on coming up.  It is His face.  To look someone in their face you have to be in their presence.

So be in His presence.  Enjoy His face and His love and realize that He looks toward you each and every day ready to bless you and me.

The new year is going to be filled with Hope.  Real and lasting hope.  That is part of the blessing!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciplesā€™ feet, drying them with the towel he had around himā€¦ 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each otherā€™s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
