pray for our country

This is not meant to be a post about politics or division.  Simply I want to share my position and plea to God for our country.

My prayer is for peace and unity.  Asking God for others is called intercession, and this is something Christians are encouraged to do.  Pray for others.  Pray for those in need.  When you feel you can do nothing else, you can pray.

Spend time praying.  Spend time looking to God for what is happening around us.  But don’t be eaten up by all the negativity.  Remember that God is always, always in control.  God is always working.  His good will come out and many lives will be changed because of what God is doing.

Seeking the blessing of God for you and for others.

Psalm 33:12  NASB

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen for His own inheritance.

Make sure that prayer is a priority for you and for those you influence.

2 Chronicles 7:14  NLT

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

Do what saved people, changed people, God followers do… don’t let what’s wrong with the world take what is right with you away.  Seek God and His goodness.  Pray and believe that God is working and will bring about what is best.

Psalm 1:1-3  NLT

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2  But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3  They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

Finally, I believe that we still have a mission from God, a purpose to fulfill and that there are needs to be met.  Do all you can with the blessings God has placed in your life to do all the good you can for as many people as you can.  Does that make sense?  It should.

Proverbs 3:27  NLT

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

I believe that we need God.  Our nation needs God.  When we confess that fact and believe that fact, blessings will come.  I leave you with that truth.

Matthew 5:3  GWT

Blessed are those who recognize they are spiritually helpless. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them.

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
