we are blessed

One of the greatest or best known passages of Scripture is called the Beatitudes.  It is found in Matthew 5 and is one of the first sermons that Jesus shared.

The first verse is telling.  It says that Jesus taught because he saw the multitudes.  He understood their need, saw their heartache, and their place in life.  These things are the essence of living for Christ and knowing our need for God.

Take a few minutes to read through these verses.  It is from a translation we don’t read very often.  So, it will sound a little different, but the realties are strong and needed.

Matthew 5:1-12  GWT

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up a mountain and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them: 3  “Blessed are those who recognize they are spiritually helpless.  The kingdom of heaven belongs to them. 4 Blessed are those who mourn. They will be comforted. 5  Blessed are those who are gentle. They will inherit the earth. 6  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for God’s approval. They will be satisfied. 7  Blessed are those who show mercy. They will be treated mercifully. 8  Blessed are those whose thoughts are pure. They will see God. 9  Blessed are those who make peace. They will be called God’s children. 10  Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing what God approves of. The kingdom of heaven belongs to them. 11  “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, lie, and say all kinds of evil things about you because of me. 12  Rejoice and be glad because you have a great reward in heaven! The prophets who lived before you were persecuted in these ways.

This is full of what we need as well.  Not only did Jesus those people, but Jesus saw us.  He sees our need and guides us in to new and vibrant life.

We are blessed when we know we need God.

We are blessed because He is our comfort and is our peace.

We can rejoice.  God has a plan for our lives and for all that is happening around us.  Take another dive in to these verses and it’s reality.  Walk with God or begin to walk with Him.

There is much more ahead, and God wants to bless you!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
