Take a walk with me in to the “hall of fame”. No, not Nascar in Charlotte or Baseball in Cooperstown. But faith in Hebrews 11.
These people, some we know well and some we don’t, live like we can. Yes, our faith sail high or fail being low. We can trust God or do our own thing. That choice reminds us that blessings are really tied to faith. Obedience brings blessing.
You and I have heard that and seen that before. These people encourage me. Walk through the hall of fame with me…
Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Rehab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel… wow. What a list. Go learn more about them. But what does this passage say about them?
Verse 1
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.
Verse 6
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Verses 33 and 34
By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight.
Verses 39 and 40
All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised. 40 For God had something better in mind for us, so that they would not reach perfection without us.
(all verses are from the New Living Translation)
Powerful truth about faith. Choose faith. Choose the blessings.
Realize that this choice might involve lots of stress and struggle. It might include things that humanly we will end up with pain and problems. But it also means we are not alone.
Not alone means that God is with us AND God will use us. He will use us to help others find faith.
Walk through the faith hall of fame today and choose faith for yourself and your family!
Joshua 24:15 NASB
But if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served, which were beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
