Luke 10:27 NLT
The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Love God. Love people. It really is that simple.
We continue our series #HopeHeroes at The Community Fellowship, and I suggest that the real heroes, the people who have true heroic character, are those who are doing all they can, using all they have and leveraging their lives to love others.
Love does something to us. When we know we are loved, we think differently about ourselves. When we know we are loved, we respond differently to others. When we know we are loved, we live our lives differently than people who lack genuine, unconditional love.
1 John 3:17 NASB
But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?
Be careful not to miss opportunities to love. We have all seen how people miss this reality because love is a word they use but not an action to follow through with. How do we love if don’t make sure our words and actions match? The verse said it well.
Jesus is the example we follow. His love went further or goes further than anything our culture comes us with. The world struggles with unconditional love. To know real love is to love people unconditionally.
Mark 6:34 NASB
When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.
Jesus even modeled that first verse for us. He loved God first and foremost. He said the words He used and the actions He did was all dictated by the Father. Thus, He loved the father with all He had. Then, Jesus loved people where they were and with what they needed.
Knowing we are loved and loving others shows that we really belong to God.
