able to see


Following is a devotion I shared in April a couple years ago.  I pray that God gives us the ability to see.  Read on and have a great day…


Luke 4:18 NLT

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovery of sight to the blind, To set free those who are oppressed,

 

Jesus read those words in the temple during His ministry.  Right after reading this from the scroll and from the book of Isaiah, Jesus said that this Scripture was fulfilled in their hearing.

 

There was so much more to that than words.  It was a new day.  Many who had been slaves would be set free.

 

Psalm 146:8  NLT

The Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are weighed down. The Lord loves the godly.

 

Spiritual sight is needed by all people.  But we do not have sight if we don’t have Jesus or follow Him.  We are so blessed to have a God that understands our needs and our place in life.  He lifts all who are held down.

 

Isaiah 35:5  NLT

And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unplug the ears of the deaf.

 

Physical eyes sight is a blessing.  Helen Keller was blind and deaf, and she wrote about being able to see.  Sight is more than the ability to see.  Some people can see but cannot comprehend anything. 

 

Psalm 119:18  NLT

Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.

 

The best sight is that of the heart.  We can use our eyes, physical sight, but we need the eyes of the heart, spiritual sight, to be able to understand what God says.

 

May we receive our sight. May we help others receive their sight. Grasp on to it the way that Paul shares in this verse:

 

Ephesians 1:18  NLT

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

inspiration from C.S. Lewis

There are many people, past and present, who get our attention by what they write or say or share.  For me C.S. Lewis is one of those.  He was a prolific writer who continues to grab the attention of thinkers from many different points of view. Lewis first grabbed my attention when I was in 5 th grader, and our teacher, Mrs. Foy, shared The Chronicles of Narnia with our class.  It was a powerful time that this dreamer opened doors to thinking like I had never lived before.  He wrote of faith, of far off places and of strong figures who found their character rooted deep in God. C.S.
