Yesterday I began a new series at The Community Fellowship called “Getting Honest”, and we talked about believing lies or the truth. We must understand that who we follow dictates the character in us and in who we follow.
Understand that the premise of lies or the foundation of lies is from the enemy. It is his character to lie and to pervert our lives.
John 8:44 NASB
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
He is the father of lies and is the original liar. He is opposed to the truth. Now truth to Jesus.
John 14:6 NASB
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me.
He is truth. He is life. His character is the opposite of lies and the epitome of all truth. When Jesus is the focus and central, we hold to truth.
John 8:31-32 NASB
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
The choice is ours. Lies or truth.
Take one step further and read a portion of our family devotion last night as it took this reality even further:
When it comes to our minds, the devil’s strongest attack is his ability to feed us lies, or more accurately, accusations.
He tries to convince us that what we did was unforgivable – that who we are is dirty and undeserving and unworthy of love.
All of his energy is spent trying to achieve a single goal: doubt.
Doubt is his goal because he knows that is how he shuts off our faith. If we begin to doubt who God says we are and what He promised us, then we are engaging in the opposite of our calling. We are exchanging confidence and expectation for fear and distrust.
Doubt weakens our resolve and saps our energy. It makes us question the most fundamental truths about who we are and allows Satan to establish “a foothold” – a way for him to make the accusations even louder.
Psalms 42:11 NLT
'Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!'
(the last portion is taken from the bible.com and Day 2 of “Fear, Doubt, Lies: Tools of the Accuser”)
