It’s people. Literally God’s treasure is people. All He says and does is for the good of the people He created, and the stories of Scripture remind us that He will do whatever it takes so that people will have what they need and will thrive no matter what is going on.
John 3:16-17 NLT
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
Yep. Love is the reason He sent His son for our good and His glory by giving the savior and healing, not a judge or a solider.
Notice how all Scripture is turned in this same direction. You can almost see it on every page of the Bible, and it amazes me how God is turning His face to the people who so often turn against Him. We are wicked people who do our own thing. Then our great and gracious God turns toward us, forgives our sins and continues to work for our good.
Notice the fruit of the Spirit of Galatians how it is about people and the character that comes out of us as we seek Him and let Him work in our lives. Notice the armor of God in Ephesians and how putting on every piece is about the battle and the strength that only God can give us.
John 10:10 NLT
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
There again is the truth of why God gives abundance. We are His treasure, and we should treasure what He treasures. It is people. It is you and me.
That is why my heart and yours gets emotional when people are hurting. When a friend dies or a family is grieving, we often grieve with them. When bad decisions are made by someone, we too hate to see the consequences that hurt all around them.
Then there is the pain of what we see from the earthquakes or from storms and their aftermath. Or the pain seen right now in Afghanistan where the Christians are being pushed and hurt as they are in other places.
Treasure people. Pray for people. Look for needs around you and do something about it when you can. Why? Because God teaches us to treasure what really matters. What really matters is you and me. What people matters is what God’s treasures, and that is people!
