important verses to me

Galatians 6:8-9  ESV

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Those verses have been part f a journey I have been on since the beginning of June.  They have spoken to me throughout the last several months, and that is why I share them with you today.

When you read Scripture for the first time, there are many things that you catch, but what often amazes me is how new things come out for me when I read it the second or seventh or ninetieth time.  God and His word are so powerful.

As you read any scripture let it sink in and take note of what sticks out for you.  God can work in ways that nothing else can.  IN fact because of the season of life we are in something that went one direction years ago might just take you a new direction some time later.

This is one of those verses, and I am not sure how to explain it.  What I do know are a couple of the truths that I am holding on to at this time.

Flesh or Spirit.  Choose.

It is our choice, but be carful with what you choose.  Each has an outcome.  If I sow to the flesh or so the things of the world, there is an outcome of corruption, trouble and even what might not last.  On the other hand, if I sow in the spirit or live for God, the outcome will be different.  It will be life, eternal things and even God’s best and blessings.

Then, the kicker comes in.  The blessings are promised.  I want those.  How about you?

The blessings come only if I don’t give up.  And truth be known, I have wanted to give up.

There many be several different reasons you want to give up.

There might be several different things you want to give up.

In the mix of it all God is working in our lives.  He has a plan, a purpose and even blessing for each and every one of us.  So we can achieve the best, we can’t give up.

Go read that verse again.

May we reap what only comes from God because we choose not to give up!

Have you heard of EDITH BURNS?

Edith Burns was a wonderful Christian who lived in San Antonio, Texas . She was the patient of a doctor by the name of Will Phillips. Dr. Phillips was a gentle doctor who saw patients as people. His favorite patient was Edith Burns.  One morning he went to his office with a heavy heart and it was because of Edith Burns.  When he walked into that waiting room, there sat Edith with her big black Bible in her lap earnestly talking to a young mother sitting beside her.  Edith Burns had a habit of introducing herself in this way: "Hello, my name is Edith Burns.  Do you believe in Easter?" Then she would explain the meaning of Easter, and many times people would be saved.  Dr. Phillips walked into that office and there he saw the head nurse, Beverly. Beverly had first met Edith when she was taking her blood pressure. Edith began by saying,"My name is Edith Burns. Do you believe in Easter?"  Beverly said, "Why yes I do."  Edith said, "Well, what do you ...

wash feet, sharing hope

John 13:4-5,14 NLT  So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, 5 and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. Jesus set the example we follow.  He served.  He valued and gave value to others.  That is why we choose to serve. For 18 years our church has shared an outreach called back2school, and for 16 of those years we have chosen to give students brand new shoes and socks as well as washing their feet.  It is one of the most important parts of this event. Washing feet is a humbling experience where both the give and the receiver learn how to share some moments that might change their lives.  Jesus said we should do this.  See the verse above.  Follow His example, do what He did, and give far more than you will ever know....
